Sheffield’s SevenHills Fabrication’s £1.2m investment in plant and operations has won a shortlisting in a regional business awards.
The specialist sub-contract fabricator and laser cutter has been shortlisted for the Investment Award at the Yorkshire Business Masters Awards 2021 – for the second year running.
The family-run business has gone through a £1.2m investment programme over the last three years to provide state-of-the-art facilities, new technologies and increased efficiencies bringing improvements to plant, equipment, working conditions, productivity, energy consumption and waste material ratios.
James Harding-Terry, owner at SevenHills Fabrication, which now employs nearly 50 staff and has a turnover of more than £6m, said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the second year running.
“The last year, and the impact of COVID-19, has brought challenges for the company including changes in operations, staffing, products, services and management approach, but we have maintained our focus on growth, development, investment and sustainability.
“These approaches are normally associated with much larger manufacturing operations and are, as yet, barely acknowledged within the fabrication industry.
“Our investment has paid off meaning our highly skilled staff can use the latest technological developments and efficiencies to compete nationally.”
State-of-the-art equipment at SevenHills Fabrication now includes a £550,000 Bystronic fibre laser cutting machine; £60,000 electric tube-bending machine; improved extraction facilities, LED lighting, a £200,000 press brake, a £150,000 robot welder and a state-of-the-art £250,000 computer linked to Industry 4.0 technology to allow for accurate planning and production delivery.
The development of a carbon-free fabrication area has also addressed the burgeoning demand for pure stainless steel fabrications for marine, catering and medical applications.
Investment in Research and Development is responsible for 50 per cent of the company’s growth to date.
